Implants

Implants

_

Implants are replacements made of titanium, which replace the root of the missing tooth. Already one missing tooth disturbs the function of the whole masticatory system and can have a significant impact on esthetics. Implants solve both problems and it is not necessary to grind the surrounding teeth. Although there are numerous techniques to replace a missing tooth, none of them is so functional and permanent like the implant. The implant assures the most natural transfer of forces and keeps the bone from disappearing at the place of the missing tooth (which usually occurs after a tooth loss). Implants are not only used for one missing tooth but also in combination with other prosthodontics solutions. They are successfully used by completely toothless jaws, where they can be used as carriers of bridges, by patients that would otherwise need to use mobile dentures.

Implants can also be used for anchoring of complete dentures, which assures their stability and provides the patient a pleasant and secure functioning. There are numerous indications for implants; however, an individual approach to each patient is necessary.

We use implantology products “Nobel Biocare” and “Astra”, which are among the world leaders of dental implantology.

Installation of implants

_

Installation of implants is carried out under local anesthesia and the procedure is completely painless. A titanium screw is installed into the selected place in the bone and left 3-6 months to grow together with the bone. The procedure is called osseointegration and is necessary for the stability and duration of the implant.

After the period of osseointegration the implant is opened and the gums are formed through a special gingiva former, which makes it look natural.

This process takes 2-4 weeks, followed by a fabrication of permanent parts (crowns, bridges).

Immediately after the installation of implant it is often possible to start the fabrication of teeth, first provisional and than permanent.

It is important to know that not every missing tooth is an indication for an implant (bone deficiency, systemic diseases).

The installation of implants is one of the most secure procedures in dental medicine, with a success rate between 90-95%.
